Which type of Maalox should be used for diaper rash?
My daughter has diaper rash and I have read that Maalox will relieve the rash. Maalox comes in fruit flavors and mint. Should I avoid mint? There is no un-flavored version. Regualr stregnth? Any suggestions from mom’s or dad’s who have used this remedy would be much appreciated.
I know the idea is to put the Maalox on the diaper rash – not feed it to the infant. I just thought that mint or flavoring might further irritate the rash. I have heard that it should be applied with a cotton ball but no other details.

I have used milk of magnesia. It worked wonderful. I heard it only works on the flat, red rashes (kinda looks like a sunburn) not the bumpy rashes.
You know not to GIVE the maalox to your baby, right?? You PUT IT ON the rash……just want to make sure you knew that
I would NOT give my baby Maalox…regular old diaper rash medicine will relieve the rash…
I used the fruit flavor, mamimum strength with much help. I’ve used it alone and also made a paste with maalox, zinc oxide cream, antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone cream(the lowest strength) which was great for really wicked diaper rash. Good Luck!
I would’ve never known you could use that for a diaper rash….but I search for you and found this, I hope it helps, some actually said it worked some said it didn’t…so you decide.

No Maalox should NOT be used for external use.
Any ointment with Zinc in it is fine A&D is the best
It is for internal use ONLY. My daughter had to use this mixture in her mouth when she has sever fever blisters.
The mint extracts will only cause further irratation and can make it worse
Prescription Antibiotic Ointments work great as well
Do NOT give your baby Maalox. Use a topical diaper rash cream.
isn’t maalox for gas?
I’ve heard it’s good for poison ivy but I have never heard of using it for diaper rash, it may be too chemically enhanced for babies skin. I would use regular diaper cream as well as letting her run around without a diaper to help dry up the rash. Also try scorching regular old cooking flour until it’s brown and sprinkling that on a dry bum as well.
i have not tried maalox on diaper rash but i swear by “triple paste” it is super thick and works amazingly! my son was premature and was on antibiotics when he was first born. when we brought him home he had the worst diaper rash i have ever seen from the medicine. his little butt looked like raw meat. our doctor recommended triple paste and to use plain water with a soft paper towel (like Bounty) instead of baby wipes until the rash is totally gone. the triple paste cleared it up in about 2 days.
he has had rashes since then (not quite as bad) from oranges and the triple paste cleared it up in a day!!!
hope this helps!
Use the mint one with corn starch mix it so that it isn’t really thick it will take for ever to dry. My sons doc. said to use a blow dryer on the lowest setting to dry it. And it just made him pee. So we would start all over again. ( I don’t recommend a dryer) He liked the peppermint it would calm him down when he had a bad diaper rash. Too many days of the runs will do it.
Johnson’s diaper rash cream (with zinc oxide in it) is the best stuff I’ve ever seen to clear out diaper rash. Why use the Maalox if you can use stuff that is supposed to go on there?
i did not have a good experience with that with my baby. i used desitin creamy, make sure you get creamy not the regular. a & d ointment doesnt work at all.
I use vaseline…very cheap and works great! Repels liquid so it also helps to prevent rashes in the future as well. Good luck
YOU SAID; “I have read that Maalox will relieve the rash”
Key word; RELIEVES, it does not cure!
(do you use maalox with your yeast infections?)
I’m going to copy & paste want I just answered 45 minutes ago about diaper rash!
This is a trick I’ve use for all 5 of my kids.
Go to Walgreens & get the athletes foot cream.
It will wiped it out over night! (save on that ER trip)
Foot fungus is a form of Yeast.
Yeast is a fungus that creates bad diaper rashes.
NOT INTERNAL, ONLY EXTERNAL!
Because sugar makes yeast from the fruit juice that is what it is.
PLEASE try this, then chose your answers! (it’ll soon be your trick or maybe even your pediatricians.)
I would even try using breathable 100% cotton diapers, until gone!
Tomorrow allow her skin to dry without a diaper.
(F.Y.I.-Breast feeding mothers can try using there own breast milk on rashes, Breast milk is a live culture with organisms that with fight diaper rashes as well.)
