I believe the earliest known to survive was around 22-26weeks. There have been several cases between 20-30 weeks, but their chances of having down syndrome are much higher.
He’s full of it. The earliest on record I think is around 20-21 weeks, however most hospital policies will generally not allow life sustaining efforts prior to 23-24 weeks gestation.
My friend had her twins at 22 weeks. One died at 9 days and the other has cerebral palsey, but is mostly normal, just her limbs and speech are slow.
the baby i think wont survive if born 3 1/2 months…premature baby who has a big chance to survive is about 7 months..
My niece was born at 26 weeks and barely survived. I do not see how a baby could live at only 14weeks. You can google it and find out for sure.
I believe its between 22-23 weeks,
22 weeks and 6 days is the youngest baby that I know of.

My Dr. said the best chance of survival starts at 26 weeks.
Don’t believe him. You win!
No hospital will hook a premmie baby up to all the machines unless they are a minimum of 24wks gestation which is app 5mths. Sometimes in very rare occasions they may try save a baby at 22wks but at15-16wks gestation i think he is pulling your leg
Babies born at 22-23 weeks have a 24 per cent chance of survival, at 24 weeks this rises to 31 per cent. Premature babies delivered at 25 weeks then their chances are increased by 50 per cent and from 32 weeks onwards most babies can survive without medical assistance.
Oh and My sister had a baby at 26 weeks
2.5 pds
she survived but is a little slower than other babies her age
Hes full of it 22 weeks earliest, but very unlikely
I dont think thats possible.
To the poster who said higher risk of down syndrome, Being premature has nothing to do with having down syndrome, that is a chromosonal anomoly that occurs in the very beginning of conception.
congrats, u just won 50 bucks.
thats impossible.
a baby at 14 weeks is around 3 and a half inches / 9 centimetres long and weighs one and a half ounces.
some babies barely make it at 26 :s
15 weeks is absolutely ridiculous.
My twins were born measuring at only 25 weeks. We spent all year in hospital. My DD passed away and my son weighed only 1lb 3oz at his lowest.
A babys lungs do not begin to develop until after 20 weeks gestation. The youngest baby to ever survive was 21 weeks and 5 days. I know her mother from a preemie group i am a member of. Usually any baby born before 23 weeks will not survive. Their lungs do not yet have any air sacs and they do not have ventilators suitable or capable of inflating the under developed lungs. These babies typically die very soon after birth. In the USA approx 13% of babies survive at 23 weeks gestation, if given the intensive care they need. Most are are profoundly disabled with mobility problems, blindness and loss of hearing due to overstimulation and lack of development before birth.
The age of viability is known as 24 weeks. The USA have slightly higher survival rates than the UK. A baby at 24 weeks will measure about 11 inches long and weigh approx 1lb. About 25% of babies survive at 24 weeks gestation, about 80% of these babies have moderate to severe disabilities. 24 weekers can spend anywhere from 4 months to 1 year in hospital, depending on the complications they suffer. Many will go home on oxygen and will be tube feb. They attend physical therapy for many years.
Approx 60% of babies born at 26 weeks survive. Out of 100 born at this age, 30 will grow up completely healthy. 26 weeks stand a much better chance than those born at 24 weeks. However, they are still at great risk from complications of infection and lung disease. 26 weekers are usually in hospital until their orignal due date, so around 14 weeks in NICU.
By 28 weeks gestation approx 80% of babies survive. Disability is normally only mild. Most babies born at 28 weeks will spend around 2 weeks on a ventilator, 2 weeks on CPAP and then another few weeks with supplemental oxygen. They begin to breast or bottle feed at around 34 weeks gestation. Most babies at this age are home from hospital about 8-10 weeks after birth.
By 32 weeks the baby has a stronger immune system and is usually able to breathe with only a small amount of assistance for a few weeks. They are usually home from hospital with 4 weeks and very few have long term complications. Complications are generally limited to behavioural and developmental disorders. 32 weeks is a HUGE milestone in terms of preterm labour and delivery. A healthy baby born at 32 weeks will have no increased risk of dying than a baby born at 37 weeks. They’re known as feeder growers in the NICU as that is all they do, feed and grow!
In Australia the earliest a bbay can survive is about 24 weeks but then it is very much in the hands of god.
a fetus would not survive if born at 14 weeks. the lungs and organs are not developed enough to sustain life outside the womb, even with assistance. the earliest premie to survive was 21 weeks, and she was a rare case. 24 weeks is when a premie has the best chance of survival.
my neice was born at 22 weeks and is a happy little girl at 5 months old
she is tiny but doing awesome
my twins were born at 22 weeks and both boys lasted an hour and didnt survive, my midwives said there is not many cases in england? usually in USA as they have more specialist equipment forever in my heart xxx
