Question by : Newborn looking sick/tired?
Okay, I might so over paranoid with this, but I’m a new mom and kinda paranoid about everything. I have a two week old son and the past two days he looks like hes constantly exhausted, like kinda pink around his eyes like adults do when they’re sick or really tired, but he isn’t running a fever or anything. My husband and I both had a small bug the other day and were both throwing up w/ diarrhea and slight fevers, so I’m afraid he might be getting sick. Also he isn’t sleeping as much as he was before, like hes still sleeping all day but more awake during the day time. Sorry if this doesn’t make any sense, but is this all normal with newborns, looking kinda exhausted?

Answer by lisaloxx probably normal. Esp the sleeping. They will slowly start being awake more. If you’re concerned about the eyes then mention them to your doctor. My daughter’s eyes got red like that right before her tear ducts became blocked. Now they are like that all the time and have gunk until we can get them unplugged or they do that on their own.
Question by Momma Jette: Vomiting/restless newborn??
My son is 18 days old and since this past Thursday, he’s been throwing up at least half of what I feed him. Sometimes it’s just a normal puke, sometimes it’s projectile vomit and it comes out of his nose and everything. He is breastfed but I also suppliment because he doesn’t get full off of me even after an hour of feeding. I suppliment with Similac Advance. We have tried putting him on Isomil Soy but it just made the problem a thousand times worse. Also, he is very restless. I understand that newborns have a weird sleep pattern, but my son only sleep literally 8 hours max in a 24 hour period. He grunts and groans in his sleep and wakes up startled like he’s having a nightmare. I’m taking him to the pediatrician today as soon as they open but I was wondering, does anyone have any experience with either of these symptoms???
I also wanted to add that he is a full term baby, born on my due date. He has gained 2 lbs over his birth weight, was perfectly healthy at each check up.
He has been on Similac advance since he was born and we just started having problems with it this past Thursday.

Answer by Amber you need to talk to your doctor and see if there is a different formula that’ll work better with his body. that’s happened with my niece a few times until they got her on the right formula that was working with her instead of making her sick. it’s really all about the formula, that’s why he’s sick..
Question by Lana T26: Bringing up wind in newborn baby?
Im breastfeeding my 2 week old daughter and she is really hard to burp. I burp her in between breasts for approx 15 – 20 minutes and then same after a feed. At night when im feeding her 5 – 10 minutes in she will unattach herself from my breast and ill try to burp her and she will start to throw herself backwards (this is if i sit her on my lap to burp her) and if i hold her over my shoulder she starts sucking my shoulder. What is the best way to burp her, how long should i burp her for? Should i try to continue feeding her? Also, if she feeds longer than 15 minutes on one breast she pukes up a bit of her feed (this varies from a small amount to something that seems to be about 15 – 20ml). Is there anything that i can do to stop this?
Also, my midwife and community nurse suggested that i wake her every 3 – 4 hours during the day for feeding (which i do). She is on auto pilot for night feeds and wakes herself every 2 – 3 hours for feeding (and then the tantrum begins). She has approx 10 – 12 wet nappies and is on par with with her dirty ones too.
Eventually she does bring up the wind (its just a struggle), and when she is crying she does bring her knees up. My partner and i have tried putting her down too but she cries even more. She also has the white/blue marks around her mouth. How long should it take to burp a newborn?

Answer by ♥JessQ♥ I breast fed my daughter and she almost never burped. My doctor said this was completely normal as breast fed babies do not suck in as much air as bottle fed babies. My daughter also spit up a lot in the first few weeks of life, the doctor said this was from the fact that she was getting use to eating my milk and that it was also from the fact of her swallowing her fluid in the birthing process and that it would soon stop.

Question by Jamie: I have a 2 week old newborn and just realized her Similac is soy…?
it’s milk free and lactose free, I didn’t mean to buy this, but is it ok that I have been feeding her this for 2 weeks, could this be the reason she sometimes throws up her formula? Is there a regular one I can buy?

Answer by eeyorechick101 As far as the formula goes they always tell you to check with a ped. first. Here is a website for you www.similac.com Not sure if that is why baby is throwing up…
