Question by sandalishus: What, if any, is the long term effects of an infant that was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis late?
My daughter had pyloric stenosis when she was 10 weeks old. Symptoms began at 2 weeks. She went 8 weeks before I finally took her to the ER. I took her to the doctor 3, even 4 X’s a week because of projectile vomiting, no bowel movements & diapers were barely wet. The last visit to the doctor before going to the ER (which was a friday) he told me give her diluted apple juice & that would help her have a bowel movement & to call him on Tuesday. The surgeons at Childrens Hospital told me that Sunday would have been too late. 2 1/2 days later she was strong enough to have the pylorotomy. My daughter is now 13 years old but has learning disabilities in school. At home she doesn’t listen, cusses @ dad & throws MAJOR tantrems. I’m not talking about the ‘normal’ unruliness of a teenager. Could this be caused from being malnurouished at a very critical developmental stage of life? Anyone ever heard of this condition causing problems later in life?

I haven’t heard of this condition causing troubles later in life, but I know that nutrition is a big thing to help with proper brain development and to look at learning disabilities as well.

My Baby was put on Zantac first. My paediatrician told me there are 4 difference strenghs of drugs they use for reflux. Doctor strength-Gaviscon, Paediatrician strength- Zantac, and so..(i cant remember the names) Basically you have the first step in treating reflux. It will work for a couple of hours each time and maybe that will be all your babies needs. I think they start with that when the baby is a newborn and if he/she still needs something stronger later they switch to Zantac and so on. My little one went on Zantac at 6 weeks old and he is still on it at 4 months old. he just needs it. I feel for you! Reflux babies can be very heart-wrenching to watch. It will get better i promise!

My infant has been vomiting in the morning…?

Question by babby maker, MILF: My infant has been vomiting in the morning…?
She is 9 months..about a month ago she starting vomiting, copious amounts during the middle of the night. She vomited a day later, early in the morning. About a week ago, the vomiting became almost daily. She projectile vomits…it has been a yellowish to a milky color…She typically nurses about 10-20 minutes before these episodes. I have omitted all milk proteins, eggs and soy from my diet, as she was recently found to be allergic. She had an abdominal xray, and it was negative for a foreign object obstruction. She is having a barium study on Wednesday, to rule out a malrotation…but she doesn’t appear to be in much pain…at all…What else could it be? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Similar thing happened to my friends baby and he was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis. He had an operation and he’s fine now. He was projectile vomiting after every feed too. Best of luck.

Can a infant be allergic to formula all of a sudden?

Question by : Can a infant be allergic to formula all of a sudden?
My son is 11 months old and was having projectile vomiting but that has passed. Now he has stomach cramps and diarrhea. Taking him to the doc in the morning and also taking a stool sample so they can check for blood in his stool. Have not seen any rashes on his body.
Maybe you should try breastfeeding sometime Mr. Wiggles. Then you can state your opinion. But since your not a woman…STFU. ;)

Sorry no experience. Do you still have breastmilk? You could try to feed him breast milk and see if he tolerates this better.
Good luck!
