Question by everydayimhustling: Is feeding a newborn more than 1 ounce too much?
My two week old is now eating 2 – 2 1/2 ounces of formula (or pumped breast milk) with rice cereal every 4 – 5 hours. She doesn’t spit up or throw up her feedings. Everything I’ve read seems to suggest that feeding a newborn more than 1 ounce is too much.

I’m looking for advice from other new and experienced moms alike. What’s your take?
Also, I forgot to add that the pediatrician suggested adding rice cereal to her feedings because of an acid reflux scare we had earlier this week. We haven’t experienced any problems with her feedings since we started adding rice cereal! :)

You should be feeding them at 2-3 hrs. 4-5 is too long to eat again. and no 2-3 oz is just right

Question by sherry h: 3 week old newborn vomiting after every feeding?
My baby girl is 3 weeks old. I had her on Parents Choice formula ever since she was 5 days old. She was taking it perfect, but now for the last 2 days she has been throwing up all of her milk after her feedings, sometimes projectile vomit. I took her to a doctor but they said keep watch on her and bring her back in 4 days time. Any idea why she is suddenly throwing up from the formula. Also, she started throwing up as soon as i opened a new can of formula (powder). The exp. date is for another year yet but could it possibly be gone bad? I cant really smell anything funny so i dont think it is. What else could be making her sick like this? Please help

My little brother had a problem like this, but it wasn’t due to the formula, it was due to the shape of his mouth. He had something called cleft palate, which you can’t actually see from the outside, that was preventing him from holding the nipple right. something about the airflow? caused him to projectile vomit after feeding. Or, you can change cans of formula and see if that helps.

About bottle feeding newborn babies…?

Question by Deannayvonne: About bottle feeding newborn babies…?
I had a friend who would lay her baby down on the couch and get a blanket and bundle it up so the bottle would lay on the blanket so it would feed the baby so she wouldn’t have to do it.
Is that bad? I heard it was.. and I didn’t say anything to her because I didn’t want her to be mad, but the baby ended up throwing up easily if you rocked him or something.
I am now 9 weeks pregnant I just want to know all the precautions I want my baby to be healthy.

When he stops sucking on your nipple or falls asleep. Have you tried to pump milk to see how much he is eating?

Question by Merrp: Projectile Vomit after every feeding, Fever, Cranky, HELP!!!!!!!!!!?
My two month old son who has been incredibly healthy up until now is sick and I mean sick!

Saturday he began with a cough and feeling warm but no fever so I left it gave him a dose of tempra.

Sunday Kinda the same thing but puking a little after each feeding began… also he was really lethargic ….worried but again figured its not much to get too worried over and rush him to the doc’s ect.

Yesterday he was a whole new baby. I know babies cry and wine Im not dumb but I was sooo blessed my son doesn’t even really cry when hungry, didn’t flinch at his shots ect. But yesterday he was screaming bloody murder all morning. Clingy to the point I couldn’t even put him down to go pee, get a drink or answer the phone. He again had no fever( by ear, armpit or rectal) but was so incredibly hot to the touch. I mean Just BURNING UP! He barely ate and would puke after each feeding more and more each time. When putting him to bed he projectile vomited more than I swear he had eaten all day. I couldn’t let it slide anymore Childrens hosptial was my next stop.

After the 1 ½ hour drive there ( theres no good hospitals around here) temptetires taken any which way possible every 20 min for a good 8 hours. A chest X ray, urine sample they released him but with a temp of 37.5…telling me that hes fine its just a virus let it run its corse but if it hits 38 rush him back by ambulance. Needless to say that dosent sit well in my stomach

This morning he seemed on the mend ate pretty good kept it down smiled played etc. he still felt hot but no fever. We’ll he didnt eat anything from 8 am till about 12 30 and even when he did he projectile vomited what seemed to be 2 x the amount he ate. Than at around 2 30 3 ish he again seemed on the mend he ate a good 8oz burped, smiled played ect but still felt hot to the touch so I gave him a dose of tempra again. With in seconds he vomited so violently and omg words can not describe this puke. There was so much he was covered in it I was covered, the couch, the floor and his chair all just drenched in it. Even the phone on the table beside us. But still burning and I mean BURNING to the touch but no tempeture. And still he’ll paste a smile on his face.

I don’t want to put him through all that crap again at the hospital if it truly is just a virus but Im terrified that its something serious. Do I go back only to be sent home again because no thermometer will register a fever…Or has other people kids done this so young?

Help of all sorts would be great!!
