I think after 27 weeks the baby can survive outside the womb.
I do believe 26 weeks is where a baby would be able to be born and live, but that is with the tubes and incubator and all that. Any earlier than that it would be a struggle for baby to survive and chances are slim to none that the baby would make it through, seeing as those are still really crucial development times.
There is a slim chance from 24 weeks. VERY good odds of survival from 30 weeks on.
Recent figures (1998) found that at 24 weeks the odds of survival are 58 per cent, rising to 98 per cent or more by the time the baby reaches 28 to 30 weeks gestation. These statistics will continue to improve as neonatal care and research evidence evolves.

My friend’s baby was born at 27 weeks. She required a long stay in the NICU, but is an active 7 year old. She does have vision problems stemming from her early birth, though.
yes it can, my obgyn explained to me that a baby can live NO EARLIER than 20 weeks because thats when they develop blood vessels and if the baby is born close to or earlier the chances of survival are like 2 percent! but the farther along you get the chance of survival goes up
Babies born after 24 weeks can survive. That is around the six month mark. At that point they require very extensive medical care. They will be on a ventilator. They will have a struggle but a lot do survive. The closer you are to your due date the better their chances for survival and no lasting effects of prematurity. Hope that helps.
22 weeks is the EARLIEST a baby has ever been born and survived, although this is clearly almost unheard of. I think its usually 26 weeks+
its mid 20 week range anywhere from 24 and up and it can survive..the chances go up higher the longer you are.but it is possible..
i think about 25+ weeks or so there is a possiblity that they can save the baby.
a long time ago..a baby that was born a week or two early was at a very high risk of not surviving.
now days they are saving babies that are born extremely premature. i know someone who delivered a 3lb baby and it lived.
its just amazing the things they can do now days with all the technology!
hope that helped
my son was born on february 10th..but was due february 25th.
6lbs 12 oz healthy baby boy!
The age of viability (or age where a baby can possibly survive outside the womb) is 23 weeks gestation. Most hospitals have the policy that if a baby is born before then, they will not intervene medically. My son was born at 25 weeks (15 weeks or almost four months early) and is now thriving at 10 months of age, but he had a very long very hard road filled with tons of medical problems and a 114 day stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
My son was 2 1/2 months preemie. So were 2 of my nephews. I went into labor with him the first time at 24 weeks. If I were to have had him that early, I was told his chances of survival were much greater than they were at 23 weeks. In fact, this may seem horrible, but the hospital that I was sent to when I went into labor asks mothers at 23 weeks in advance if they want to hold their newborn because the chances of survival are very slim. At least, they asked this 11 years ago.
Im not sure how premature she was but my husbands sister was born weighing only 2 pounds & some odd ounces..shes 27 now & you would never know..
my twins were born at 24 weeks (weighed 9ounces and 1pound 1 ounce) they survived but were susceptible to every illness under the sun, they were the smallest babies born at my local hospital to date.
i know its around 20-23 weeks,,that they MAY live!
i had my son at 35 weeks a healthy 5.6 lbs!:)
at six moths with intensive care, the fetus may servive out side of the mother. I think the easliest I have hea about was 24 weeks.
My brother was suppose to be born around November 24 and came out on October 23 and he made it, he had to spend three days extra in the hospital in a thing I’m sorry I forget what its called, and hes just fine, man hes such the active little thing
the only reason he came that early was because my mother had a ruptured placenta and it didn’t come out so they had to get him out of there asap or he would’ve died
All in all I know my brother was born a month early and hes fine
I believe that it is 27-28 weeks…..
But, my daughter was born 36 weeks and 4 days premature and had problems after she was born. She had to be on oxygen, under the Belie lights and had to have a IV in her little arm. I couldn’t hold her and my heart broke every time I couldn’t pick her up when she cried. It was horrible. It has been a long road over the past 3 1/2 years, lots of speech therapy, OT and because the was born a Preemie she developed Sensory integration. Now after all of the early intervention she is a very happy healthy little girl.
Everyday the baby stays inside of you he/she will have a less chance of being born with infections, mentally retarded, blind, hearing impaired, the baby’s lungs will be mature to breathe on his/her own. They have drugs to keep you from going into labor too early and most likely will require you to be on bed rest.
The youngest ever is 21 weeks and 5 days.
