how do you relieve the pain for some bad diaper rash?

I talked to the Dr about getting my son over the diaper rash (caused by very acidic diarrhea) but havent asked her about relieving the pain which seems to really be hurting at night. Any ideas or diaper creams anyone recommends that help with the pain instead of seemingly causing it?

desetin (sp) it usually clears up overnight, and if you think they are in a lot of pain, give yourbaby some tylenol.
they make neosporin that has numbing cream and that would ease the pain, but i would ask someone first if you can use neospoin plus, on a baby…i think it will say on the package but you have to get the neosporin plus, not just the neosporin
i think vaseline or petroleum jelly is the easiest way to remedy that.
This sounds weird but Bordeaux Butt Paste works magic on really bad diaper rash. It’s an over the counter diaper rash creme. You can buy it at a drug store or Target.
I swear by Desitin Overnight. It’s really thick and keeps everything away from the baby and wipes off easily. I’d also suggest a small amount of ibuprofen BUT talk to you doc or the nurse advise line for the dosge. Also, you might want to ask for a prescription for Butt Paste. It’s stronger than the stuff you buy in the stores. My son had TERRIBLE diaper rash. His little bottom was practically purple. I used the prescription and it healed in a matter of a couple days! If you get the prescription, it’s very sticky and thick so don’t try to wipe it off all the way it will hurt the baby. It dissolves a lot in a warm bath. Also, you might want to try laying out a mattress pad or changing pad and let the baby “air out” a little bit each day. Good Luck.
Balmex or Desitin
Lansinoh lanolin! It’s the stuff breastfeeding moms use on their nipples. It soothes, it’s safe, it protects, and it heals. I can’t use any other products because they “burn” my baby’s bottom. Plus, you can use it on any baby of any age. It’s also good for chapped lips and dry skin patches.
boudreaux’s butt paste works the best of all the ones I have tried
Try an antacid like gaviscon. Just don’t use something like pepto that contains a salicylates.
Breastmilk is good too.
Also, and I would suggest talking with your doctor BUT I know some moms have let their babies sleep on their bellies with a bunch of absorbant material underneath them and no diaper. (On their belly to keep the pee going down). I know that is a SIDS risk which is why I am saying talk to a doctor.
Also before bed try a warm bath with baking soda, just make sure to stir until the baking soda dissolves.
ask your doctor about magic butt cream. it might be called something else but its a cream that has to be prescribed because it contains nystatin. it also has desitin and maalox. they have to make it by just mixing the 3 ingredients up. it sounds weird…but it will clear it up in a day or two no kidding. i work in a hospital pharmacy and trust me it works, i have used it on my kids. do you use a &d ointment or vaseline. most people only use those for diaper rash. i use them with most diaper changes to prevent them. once you get it cleared up, try putting this on his bottom at least at bed time for preventative. good luck.
My son only had a diaper rash three or four times and i always used Desitin. I changed his diaper no less than every hour and put a fresh coat of Desitin every time. I gently wiped off his skin also. At night, I changed him and wiped off and again applied a heavier coat of desitin. I tried to get up at least once at night to change him again. After one day of doing this it was gone. You have to just keep them dry as possible.
Sometimes when a diaper rash is that bad, putting creams on it makes it more painful for the baby because what his bottom really needs is to be DRY. The best thing in the world for this, tried and true on many, many babies in my family is Caldesene brand powder. It contains the same main active ingredient as all the creams (zinc). It is in a round, pink plastic container, and I have never seen it at bigger stores like Wal-Mart; try pharmacies like Walgreens or CVS.
I know there is this big deal about not using powder these days, it will get in the baby’s lungs they say, but the easy remedy for this is to carefully apply it by hand instead of sprinkling it on the baby from the can. With both of my kids, I always put a small amount of this powder after every change to prevent diaper rash from forming in the first place. I cannot say enough good things about Caldesene powder.
My youngest son was always prone to severe diaper rash and he was often irritable and cranky because of this. I swear by petroleum jelly–it helps soothe the pain and speeds up the healing time.
My Dr prescribed a 1% solution of hydrocortisone for the bad bum rash caused by teething…woprked like a charm. Also oput thiem in a bath with baking soda i it to take out the sting.
