diaper rash and red chapped cheeks ( on her face)?
so she has had the red cheeks on the face b4. i just chalked it up to teething and drool. now she has a pretty red diaper rash, we started her on rice cereal last week. so im wondering if the diaper rash is realated to the teething or to the new food. ok so the question is did your baby get a butt rash when the started rice cereal? how about when they were teething? and recomend a good diaper cream. i have balmex and bourdeuxs butt paste and desitin, also have walmart brand and target brand…. i have had these given to me by caring friends.
the cheeks were chapped b4 the diaper rash—b4 the cereal
im gonna give her ped a call if it dont get better, she does not get juice or anything else she has only had breast milk until the rice cereal

if her cheeks are chapped you may want to get a doctor to look at that.
I can say yes and yes. My children have all gotten diaper rashes from new foods being introduces and from teething. Are you adding juices to the cereal? That can make it worse. I’m sure you knew that though
Although cereal is known as a very bland food.. the starches and fiber in it can very likely cause a change in your child’s stool..which then can cause diaper rash.
Because she has the chapped cheeks and this has happened before with her teething.. I would then think it more likely sounds like its from her teething. With my kids it always came hand in hand. But only for the most intense gum cutting time of the teething.
As for diaper rash creams.. I think I have tired them all. And what has worked for my friends kids without fail.. sometimes doesnt work for my kids.. I think it depends on the skin. If you just follow the rule of keeping it dry..so it is allowed to heal it will clear up. My ped. always said to use the white stuff to totally cover it.. (not Vaseline or clear stuff) I myself found that NONE work for my kids. The fastest way I have found to clear a rash up would be getting them out of the bath.. letting them run around the bathroom naked (playing with toys) and aiming warm air from the blow dryer on there tushey for as long as they can stay occupied. Followed up by corn starch or scentless baby powder in there diaper.
My Daughter never got a rash from eating Rice Cereal- But, she did get a Diaper Rash when she was teething. Has your Daughter had an Lose stools or Diarrhea? Usually, thats where the Rash comes from when there teething.
Anyways, I SWEAR by A&D ointment. You can buy it at your local drugstore, or Wal-Mart. It is GREAT! it works soooo good! and the rash on her face could very well be from teething as well. and of course if it doesnt clear up within a few days contact her ped!
It sounds like you are doing what you can. The zinc-oxide in the creams is what helps the rash, so check your labels for solid levels of that ingredient.
I highly recommend giving her as much free time (no diaper) as possible. It will make her so happy and help to clear the rash up. I gave my kids tons of free time and we rarely had issues with diaper rash. Use the least amount of water as possible to help lessen the chapping and don’t bathe too often. They are wonderfully clean already and certainly don’t need a bath every day. It’s hard on their skin.
I have never heard of diaper rash caused by cereal, but ease off and see if the symptoms do too. I would think a food alergy would affect the whole of her body, not just her little bum. (Having said that, my sister is allergic to oranges and gets a rash on the underside of her forearms, so who knows.)
If she is not having loose bowel movements or more than ususal, than I’d say it’s not the cereal. And yes, teething can be hard on the cheeks of her face. Because fever often comes hand in hand with teething, a diaper rash can pop up. I suggest free time then too.
Galaxal Base (not certain of spelling) is the cream used on burn units and contains zinc-oxide. It is the best there is, however, you have some good products there so the extra expense may not be worth it.
I wish you much success and stress free time to you.
Good luck and good health to you all.
my baby girl gets red cheeks all the time, I use vasoline on them and it tends to go away in just a few hours. (dont get it is the baby’s mouth or eyes) My baby girl has been teething now for about 2 months and she has gotten a diaper rash once. The stool that a baby has when teething is different, its almost like acid on a baby’s skin. I always use desitin, it’s my favorite. Try keeping your baby as dry as possible, and instead of wiping with a babywipe (if you are at home) run your baby’s butt under luke warm water to get the mess off then apply the cream. Thats what I’ve been doing and she hasnt had a diaper rash since.
Hope this helps
