Premature Babies Archives

I’ve had several surgeries to re-attach half of the retina in my left eye (prematurity-related), which had detached. I see my eye surgeon, as well as another specialist every six months, to check both my eyes. In fact, I saw my surgeon yesterday-both of my retinas are doing well. It has been about 2 yrs since my last surgery. Since then, the damaged area in my vision flashes sometimes, atleast a few times every week, usually when i have some kind of strong emotion, (so it seems) or sometimes when i bend. My surgeon would have told me if it was a concern, however, could this just be nerves firing in the damaged area, on the retina, or possibly from blood pressure? i now realize the signs of retinal detachment (flashing etc.), but perhaps this type of flashing is not a concern? Damaged nerves perhaps? although my retinas have been fine, is it also possible the flashing is a sign of the retina TRYING to pull away again, even though it is still intact? yikes

Can blind people dream if they were born blind?

My son has a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity and it is a the worse stage. Operation done was not successful. He is 3 months old now. Anyway when he is sleeping he does what other babies do. He smiles, he frowns, he whimpers etc. like having a dream but how do they dream if they never saw anything before.
natalia im shock that you consider my son to take open sky vasectomy.

just kidding. thanks for the answer. and yes they did try that when my son’s condition was still a stage IV-A but as I said it was not successful. The technology in my country is not that advance. How I wish an expert from developed country was the one to operate on my son…..
Thanks to everyone who answered. I I can only choose all of you for the best answer I would already have but I can choose only one but thanks to all of you for your caring words.

natalia thanks for the info.

Any mummies out there with prems?

I don’t really know any mums who have had premature babies, I had a placental abruption and gave birth to my son at 30+4 weeks gestation. He was 3lb 5oz and stayed in hospital for 7 weeks. He experienced bradys and apneas the entire time. He has iron anemia as a result of prematurity, don’t know about any other long term effects as of yet.. Would be comforting to hear stories from mummies of prem babies?

ROP or Retinopathy of Prematurity is a condition which effects those who were born premature. The blood vessels in the eyes have grown improperly and the retina is usually weak. This condition leaves many children blind and can effect those with seemingly normal vision later in like like it did me. Several surgeries are usually needed to correct the problem if it is even able to be corrected. I just wondered if there were wnyone else out there with a story like mine. If so let me know.

Would women regard this as odd or think less of a man?

If a man were to come from the excitement alone of performing oral but didn’t otherwise exhibit any “prematurity”, would a woman think less of him or consider him strange?
Assuming there’s no problem coming back for more
