Can you explain how SSI works for a premature baby?

Our child was just born, and we were told she automatically qualifies for SSI because she is so small. What should I expect to go through to get her sign up, and what might she receive as far as benefits?

I dont know. You need to contact your local SSI Administrative Office for details. Good Luck.
Congradulations on the birth of your child.
well i have never heard of that you go to your ssi office she will get $623.00 a mounth its diffrent in every state
Applying for SSI takes alot of patience. They will want to know everyhitng, what your income is, what your savings are, how many cars ect you own, mortgage information. they will likely send her to independent dr’s for medical evaluations, to deterine what level of disability she has. she will likely qualify for medicaid, and depending on your income level and her disability you may get a small monthly stipend for her extra expenses. I have not herd that SSI can be obtained due to prematurity, my son recieves it due to disability. Good luck
SSDI maybe. But SSI is based on income. Apply at your local social security oiffice. They have an online website too… http://www.ssa.gov
SSI? Yes you can receive it for your preemie(no offense please) my sis receives it for her daughter since she was about 1month old and still getting it. Yes I believe that they go by income.
But Im sure you can still get it no matter what.
It was given to my sis because they told her that we can never tell what might be wrong with her as she grows up and that she might be disabled. So far so good. Thank god.
Good luck with everything and your little blessing.
